What Cisco Is Doing To Support Its ‘Biggest Route To Market’: Managed Services

Managed services have not only become a popular channel offering and a sought-after way to use technology for businesses, but they are also the biggest way to market for Cisco Systems.

Companies around the world have experienced a change in their IT budgets and requirements in the last two years. Many organizations either do not want or can no longer afford CAPEX spending, and managed services have introduced a new way of buying IT that allows customers to grow as they need, freeing up day-to-day monitoring and management solutions and supporting their increasingly hybrid workflow forces. But the managed services model is not the way Cisco has historically come to market. That’s why the San Jose, California-based technology giant is working behind the scenes within its own organization to support managed services and promote these sales through its ecosystem of critical channels – many of which are experienced SMEs.

Alexandra Zagury, vice president of partner-managed services and sales as services, sat down with CRN ahead of a roundtable on managed services for journalists and analysts last week to discuss how Cisco is approaching an increasingly important path to market, changes Cisco is working on internally on its systems to support managed services, the link between managed services and the All as a Service (XaaS) model, and what the company is doing specifically to help more partners sell managed offers.

Here are excerpts from the conversation.

SaaS examples: BigCommerce, Google Apps, Salesforce, Dropbox, MailChimp, ZenDesk, DocuSign, Slack, Hubspot. PaaS examples: AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Heroku, Windows Azure (mostly used as PaaS), Force.com, OpenShift, Apache Stratos, Magento Commerce Cloud.
