I've decided to postpone the LaPorte Ice Derby that was planned for Jan. 28th until Feb. 11th. We just don't have enough safe ice around here for a public event like this. Hoping we will by Feb. 11th. I'm sorry as I know this date is also the one that IAIFS is doing your North Central Event. I'm not trying to step on any dates, it's just a reality of the crazy season. It's the only date I could do it with the LaPorte Park Dept that is hosting it for us.
Here are the details for the new event:
LaPorte WinterFEST Ice Fishing Derby Feb. 11th
Purpose: The following is a Partnership Between LaPorte Parks Department, Rotary of LaPorte, LaPorte County Tourism Bureau and “Friends of Fishing†. The purpose of the event is to promote the community of LaPorte and raise funds for charities.
Date: Saturday Feb. 11, 2012(we had originally planned to have this on Jan. 28th but have postponed it due to ice conditions)
Time: Derby Registration at 6am CST, Fishing begins at 7am CST. Weigh in at 4pm CST.
Weigh In: The longest fish will be the winner in each category. Ties will be decided by weight. Walleye and Bass can be measured and weighed in on the lake by an approved person. The rest of the fish will be brought back to the weigh in time at the lodge. Fish must be fresh. Any deputes will be decided by Friends of Fishing leader.
Program: Ice Fishing Derby on the LaPorte Lakes
Location: Cummings Lodge on Stone Lake, LaPorte Indiana
Funding/Finances: We will charge a $10/adult/5/child for the Ice Fishing Derby if registered by Friday Feb. 10th at Parks Office. (late fee will be $15/adult/$7/child on the day of the event). We will also sell door prize tickets for some bigger items that will be won by a drawing. Funds will go to Rotary to fund their charity and community work.
Partnership Responsibilities:
1. Rotary: Promotion and gathering of prizes for the adult and youth categories from the community.
2. LaPorte Parks Dept: Providing Cummings Lodge, Promotion through their Parks Brochures and websites as part of WinterFEST. Pre-registration for the event via the LaPorte Parks Dept office at 250 Pine Lake Ave, LaPorte.
3. Friends of Fishing-All details of the Ice Fishing Derby-registration and weigh in. Promotion of the Derby via the internet and in local bait shops.
Fish Categories: We will have Adult and Youth Categories(under 18) in the following categories:
1) Bluegill/Redear
2) Perch
3) Bass
4) Walleye
5) Crappie
Lakes: Fishing must occur on Stone and Pine Lake in LaPorte Indiana
"Prizes and Sponsors: We are excited to announce that Vexilar is getting behind this event and our grand prize to the overall winner of this event will be a Vexilar FL-12 Tri-Beam. Prizes will also be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category for the adult and youth divisions. Currently the following businesses and groups are sponsors: Rotary of LaPorte, IU Health of LaPorte, Herald Argus, LaPorte County Tourism Bureau, LaPorte City Parks Dept, Vicious Fishing, Vexilar, Blakemore Jigs(Roadrunners), Real Magic Line Conditioner, Lakefork Trophy Lure package. .
Liability: Each participant will be required to sign a “release of liability†form provided by the Parks Dept.
