Title: Jig Swap
Post by: Pup on March 04, 2007, 11:13:23 am

I followed the progression of one of these on another web site. It seemed to work fairly smoothly. I know that I'm getting my thoughts together late on this, as spring is just around the corner. Time to go fishing instead of tying. Perhaps, we could try this out early next winter?
Here's the idea. Participating members would produce only one particular pattern of jig or fly to be distributed to each member participating in the swap. It could even be a hand-poured bait, if desired. All jigs/flies/hand-pours would be mailed to one member of the group who will be agreed upon to package and mail these to the participants. We could work out the details later, if there is sufficient interest.
Just something to think about. Please reply to this thread if you have an interest. I'll stick this thread and review it next fall. Also, I'll back it up periodically in case of any board changes.

I can tie you all some good rabbit strip bluegill and crappie jigs. They would be the 1/64 ounce size but could possibly do 1/32 or 1/16 if needed. Let me know if we are going to do this.

I just finished these today for a fisherman in the Chattanooga, TN area.

How about we plan this for sometime late this fall? I'm ready to get out and do some fishing.

So how many are going to be interested in doing this? I was wondering how this would be done also? This is your thing pup so let us know. I was also wondering what type of jigs are we supposed to tye? Is there a certian size people want or do we just tye up one of our creations for each person in the swap or just for the person we swap with? Lets say 10 people decide to do this. We tie a jig for each person and mail them out or we mail it to one person to mail to everybody? I figure we could see who is interested and decide how to do this. Fall and winter are the corner and will be hear before ya know it.
I know I dont tye to many jigs larger than 1/16 since I have been fishing more for panfish. The jigs and flies I usully tye could be used for float-n-fly. I have learned how to tye a few new flies with my new Glass Bead Flie Tying book that would be great for float-n-fly. Even though these new flies weigh less than 1/32 they look to be deadly. If need be I could find a way to make them a little heavier.

Mike,
I'm fine with facilitating this. Just give me at least through the first week of September to finish moving and to become familiar with my ny new side of town (West Indy).
I see this as each person tying jigs for the total number of people participating minus one. So, if 10 people participate, then each person will have to tie 9 jigs of a single pattern. This will make distribution and packaging much easier. These will be mailed to me and then it will be my responsibility to mail them out. We can work out a postage compensation thing once we've settled on participants. Likely, it will a pre-paid situation with possibly a couple of bucks included with the initial jig shipment.
Also, let's let folks chime in about what they want or would like to see tied. Right now, I tie mainly 1/8 and 1/4 oz. yarn jigs in natural browns, greens, and also, fluorescent pink/orange colors. We could post what we'd like to tie and then ask for a consensus on each member's pattern. This way, we might avoid any duplication of patterns.
Folks, please chime in with any of your ideas and...count me in.
