Martinsville does have a few recreational places. The Martinsville city park is one of the better parks anywhere around. It does offer play grounds, fishing, mushroom hunting, shelter house’s for picnics, cook outs, hog roast, family reunions, yard sales, and wedding receptions. Also, if I remember right, the park has an Easter Egg hunt, Fourth of July fireworks, a haunted house or trail, and Christmas decorations every year.

Indiana Pay Lake Directory, Indiana pay lakes, List of Indiana Pay Lakes, Directory of Indiana pay lakes

Looking for the best Cat fishing & Carp fishing pay lakes in America!

 Last Up-Dated August 27, 2010

Pay fishing lakes offer some of the best cat fishing and carp fishing available in the United States of America. They are usually stocked weekly and have good concentrations of Catfish and Carp! Per acre, they are stocked annually with 80% to 90% more fish than any state lake or public reservoir would offer ! The catfish are healthier and better for you to eat than river fish. Most stock farm raised grain feed catfish for you to keep, just like the ones you get in fine restaurants. Unlike government lakes, pay lake owners have to make the Cat fishing and Carp fishing good or they will go out of business. Pay lakes are the wave of the future for our cat fishing & carp fishing industry. They are responsible for keeping thousands of fisherman actively into Cat fishing & Carp fishing. Banks are usually easily accessible which is also great for anglers with handicaps, and the snag/hang up rates are low.

f you know of one that's not listed here, please let us know about it. These listings are free for all pay lakes. Indiana fishing info and Indiana fishing reports for the Hoosier angler.

Lake Michigan Fishing Report

This page was last updated on SEP 03 2010 09:36 A.M.

Channel catfish

Bait: Nightcrawlers, chicken livers, shrimp, commercially prepared bait
Depth: Bottom
Comments about fish:

Anglers have been catching channel catfish off the MC Lighthouse Pier & harbor & off the fishing platform at the Portage Lakefront Park. According to anglers, productive baits included N/C, pieces of shrimp, chunks of chicken livers or commercially prepared baits fished right on the bottom.

Chinook salmon or king salmon

Bait: Magnum sized spoons ,bodybaits, meat rigs
Depth: Up to 72 FOW
Comments about fish:

See coho for lake report. Chinook salmon were caught off the MC Lighthouse Pier late last week as cold water pushed nearshore, but quickly receded within a day and a half. Anglers stated that glow spoons and deep diving crankbaits produced a few nice size kings. Will update report when kings start to enter the tributaries.

Coho salmon

Bait: Dodger & Fly combos, spoons
Depth: Up to 72 FOW
Comments about fish:

Boat anglers continue to enjoy some of the best steelhead action in years in the southern basin of LM. Anglers have also been catching cohos, kings, lakers & even a few browns. Boat anglers launching out of MC report very good action, particularly during the morning hours for steelhead along with cohos, kings & lakers in water depths ranging from 43-72 FOW straight out or slightly W of the lighthouse. Top producing baits have been orange spoons & bodybaits such as J-11 Rapalas, Frenzy’s or J-plugs trolled anywhere from 22-55' down. Lake trout were caught primarily on spoons within a few feet of the bottom. Portage Marina anglers report steelhead, kings & coho action out-front of the “ditch” in water depths ranging from 32-50 FOW.

Rainbow or steelhead trout

Bait: Lake: spoons Pier: shrimp, N/C Tribs: shrimp, spawn sacs, spinners
Depth: Pier: 5-10' under a bobber Tribs: bounce bait along bottom
Comments about fish:

See coho report for lake action. Creel clerks with the IDNR report steelhead action picked up just a bit late last week as cooler water temps move nearshore for a couple of days. A small run of steelhead made their ways up all tribs according to the clerks. Anglers fishing Trail Cr reported action in the middle to upper reaches. Anglers fishing both Salt Cr and the E Br of the Little Cal report action in the lower reaches. No reports of salmon in the creeks as of today. As for baits, anglers have had the most luck floating pieces of shrimp or small spawn sacs just off the bottom through the deeper holes & runs.

Smallmouth bass

Bait: Minnow, nightcrawlers, tube jigs, small crankbaits
Depth: 3-18 FOW
Comments about fish:

Anglers continue to catch SMB out of Hammond & EC Marinas as well as outside the Port of Indiana. Bass anglers are also catching both SMB & LMB out of the lower sections of the E & W Br of the Little Cal. Look for SMB to congregate on man-made structure or rocky rip rap in southern LM. Anglers have stated that tube jigs & crankbaits resembling gobies have been effective. Anglers also caught bass on small spinnerbaits & a variety of topwater lures. Either early morning or late evening seems to be the best time to catch smallies. SMB have been averaging around 12"; however, larger one have been reported to the creel clerks.

Yellow perch

Bait: Minnows
Depth: Up to 34 FOW
Comments about fish:

YP anglers fishing out of MC report very good action with many limits; however, anglers may need to sort through 60 fish to get 15 decent size perch for the frying pan. Perch have been caught out front of Black’s Ditch W towards Beverly Shores in water depths ranging from 23-34 FOW. Action also reported just E of the lighthouse & out front of the condos in water depths to 27 FOW. Minnows have been the top producing bait according anglers. No action reported to the creel clerks from the western ports. Shore anglers fishing off the MC Lighthouse Pier are reporting action; however, most of the fish have been on the smaller side. Anglers report minnows suspended just off the bottom is producing.

Comments about body of water:

Water temp in the harbor of MC is 69ºF. Area tribs are high & muddy as of this morning. Visibility in the lower reaches of Trail Creek is around 2". Barring anymore rainfall, Trail Creek should be fishable by Sunday, perhaps a few days later on the western tributaries. Water temperature of Trail Creek at Friendship Gardens is currently 65º F.

Summit Lake Fishing Report

This page was last updated on SEP 03 2010 02:14 P.M.

Black crappie

Bait: small light and bright colored jigs, small minnows
Depth: 5-40 feet
Comments about fish:

Crappie fishing at night can be productive. I heard that 2 fishermen caught a bunch after midnight in 30 feet of water.

Bluegill

Bait: worms, night crawlers and crickets
Depth: 8-25 feet
Comments about fish:

This time of the year bluegill can be caught on the deeper flats.

Channel catfish

Bait: live bait including night crawlers, livers, redworms
Depth: 3-18 feet
Comments about fish:

Channel cats are active in warm water especially at night.

Largemouth bass

Bait: rattle lures, soft plastics including jig and pigs
Depth: 4-20 feetComments about fish:

The bass catch has slowed.

Redear sunfish

Bait: worms, night-crawlers, crickets
Depth: 10-25 feet
Comments about fish:

Redear are found deeper than bluegill.

Walleye

Bait: Rattling lures and jigs, minnows, night-crawlers, leeches
Depth: 15-35 feet
Comments about fish:

Some walleye have been caught. Low light conditions are best. They are a cool water fish and move deep in the summer.

Yellow perch

Bait: live bait or small bright jigs or both
Depth: 10-35 feet
Comments about fish:

Not many perch have been caught.

Comments about body of water:

With hot weather most decent-sized fish are deep, 10 feet or more during the day. Some fishermen are fishing at night to avoid the heat and to take advantage of increased fish activity. Some of the weedbeds have grown to the surface. A good place to fish is at the edge of these weeds where there is cover and shade. Practice catch and release - remember you can only eat them once. The office is open 8a-4p. 2010 park passes and lake permits are now on sale at our gatehouse and office. Camp reservations: 866-622-6746 or www.CAMP.IN.gov. Keep your lines wet.

Indiana Info Fishing Report        The Weekend Report

Farm Ponds and pits fishing:  Farm ponds and strip pits are either off or on. Some areas have still had no rain, and the bites slowing. Areas that have gotten rain the bite is good. Some ponds and pits are not producing many fish, while others have a good bite. Deeper ponds and pits are producing nice catch's. Channel cats being taken at night. Bass being taken on plastic's in and around structure. A few crappie being taken in 12 to 25 feet deep water. A good bluegill and redear bite using bee moth, red worms, and night crawlers.

White river Martinsville Indiana to Washington fishing report: Some small smallmouth being taken in the Noblesville area. North of Spencer on 67 North.  SR67 North    Spencer , Indiana   2211 W. Romona Rd, Spencer, IN 47460

Hello,

My Name is Karen, I live just north of Spencer, Indiana in Cloverdale. Although we live close to Leiber State Recreation Area, and Cataract Lake, we have been fishing in a small pay-lake just north of Spencer on SR67/US231. We stumbled across this place when my fiancee' was building a bridge near Worthington, in April of this year (2010). Bryan, my fiancee' is originally from the far south east corner of Arkansas, and is an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper, and overall outdoors-man. He would pass this little honey hole every day on his way to work, and on a few occasions stopped in the bait store to inquire as to fees to fish there, hours of operation, and any upcoming tournament's.

The lady who was currently leasing the property had at least 50 pictures posted in the bait-house, with trophy Cats, Bass, and very large Bluegills. Bryan was quickly compelled to try the place out. So we packed up all our gear an headed out one evening wit the kids, and fished for several hours, we caught 15 pan size bluegills, (where Bryan is from they are called Brim). As we were leaving that night we stopped by and spoke to a fellow on the opposite side of the lake, he said he had been coming there for years, and he had caught some really large humpback blues, channel cats, and flat-heads. Of course this really got us fired up to come back one evening without the kids, and fish all night. The pay-lake rules were you could not keep anything over 8lbs., but to report to the bait-house to get your photo posted with any large catch, and so they could keep track for inventory purposes.

We started fishing there in late April, and continued fishing there every opportunity we could. When the heat wave started this summer we began going there during early evening hours, and staying till 4 or 5 in the morning. We began to notice the people running the place were doing a very poor job. We would have to take our own weed-eater to clear areas along the bank to fish. But we still kept going back because of the size of the fish we were catching (15 to 50 lb cats, and bass). We would set traps in the creek that runs through my yard, and take creek chubs to catch the catfish, and I would brim fish with worm until nightfall. Bryan would sometimes use some small brim I had caught also for bait if we ran out of chubs.

I always made sure I wrote a check at this place because the people running seemed very shady, and their inventory of goods in their bait shop was next to null. I told Bryan I was worried the current people were going to let this place go, and the lake (I think it's an over sized pond myself) was being taking over by what I call "Coon-Tail". Since I had previously worked in the Environmental Department for a Pipeline Contractor I was a bit more educated in ecological systems, and began to really get concerned for the wildlife in the lake. On various occasions I expressed my concerns to the owner, and explained if they did not get the "Coon-Tail" under control it would quickly take over the lake, and kill the fish, starting with the larger ones, as they needed access to both the deep, and the shallow areas to live, and feed. I kept going so I could merely keep an eye on things, and watch for any distress in the fish. Sure enough during the week of the 4th of July, I could not believe my eyes. The lake was being consumed by the "Coon-Tail", there were 3 very large Flathead Catfish just swimming on the surface, one of the fish was nearly 6 feet long, I'm guessing about 100+ lbs. , the other two were about 4 foot long, 60+ lbs., they would just swim in small circles, at times doing belly rolls, Bryan was obviously eager to catch one, he tried and tried, a few times he actually hit the fish with his line, the bobber would just bounce off it back, as if not to faze the fish at all. We took my son, and his girlfriend, and another friend just to witness what we were seeing, because no one would ever believe our story without seeing it for them self...Again I made a friendly plea to the owner to do something!!!

I had Bryan drive me down there every few days to check on the fish after work, and still no change... We then got a little rain, and the big fish disappeared. Second guessing myself,  I then began to think it was just the heat, and the cool rain had somehow made things better. We went a few more times, and continued to catch fish, (25 lb humpback blue, a few 40+ lb. flat-heads, and several channel cats 2 to 3 feet long). The story we have got from other people fishing there, is the original owners, Phil & Romona would fish White River, and bring their catch to their lake and release them, which explained the size of some of these trophy fish!

The last weekend of July we took Bryan's girls who were visiting from Arkansas down to the pay lake for the night, we called Cricket (who is the lady who was leasing the property) to let her know we would be going down there for the night, and we needed to know if anyone would be there to pay. She told us her husband would be there to pick some things up, and to give the check to him. Well we get there, and there is no electricity in the bait shop, and Bryan bought what worms they had left, and her husband gave him all the shrimp, and liver that was thawing out. As Bill Engvall would say "Here's your sign!"... I told Bryan I bet Cricket and her husband are sneaking out on their lease, and taking what they could salvage. We stayed all night, had a blast with the girls, and angled some great size fish that night! 2 of the big cats I brought home, and put in my pond. This may not have been right to do, but the inevitable was near... Since we had to take Bryan's girls home to Arkansas before school started, we were unable to fish there the weekend of August 7th.

We did however try to contact Cricket to fish there the weekend of August 14th, of course the number was disconnected, and no one returned my call from the cell # she had given me. Since we had no children this weekend, Bryan and I decided to load up and go, and if anyone approached us, we planned to tell them Cricket had said we could fish there, which she had. I had told Bryan I hoped the actual owner would see us, and we could just pay them, and continue to fish there the rest of the summer. Low and behold, as we sat there on the bank, campfire burning, poles in the water, I think I was making a s'more at the time, a large SUV come rushing in, shining their brights at us. A kinda scary he/she not sure yet jumps out wanting to know what were doing, and who gave us permission to fish there. I immediately told this person Cricket had given us permission. Now realizing this is a female I am speaking with, she begins to say Cricket had indeed defaulted on her lease, and her mother was the owner. She identified herself as Amanda, and gladly gave us her mothers number, and took our check to take to her mother, and told us to enjoy. She said if we wanted to fish again to just call her mother, and make arrangements to get them the check. Amanda told us she had previously ran the place for the 3 prior years, and she knew just about every fish in the lake, and could not believe the shape Cricket and her husband had let the lake get into. I then told Amanda there was an urgent need to get the "Coon-Tail" under control, and she agreed.

The next weekend (August 21st) we called Jill Huntington, Amanda's mother to make sure we still had clearance to fish, and ask her who to give our check to. She gladly gave us permission. She said the apartments connected to the bait shop were owned by her and her husband also, and to leave our check with the people in either apartment #3, #5, or #6. We got a late start that night, so we got there just after dark. To our surprise there were other people there, she had said nothing about this to me on the phone, so we left. I then called Jill a few days later to tell her we did not fish that night because the other people there had already taken all the clear spots (the very small areas where the "Coon-Tail" had not consumed yet). She said no one else was supposed to be there, and ask us to call her if when we went again if there was anyone else there. I told her no problem, and also inquired as to when they might be doing something to clean the lake, she said her daughter was going to try to do something, but had no definitive answer. I then ask her to get back with me as to how much they were going to sell the property for, because Bryan and I were interested in it.

So we headed out this past Saturday evening (August 28th), and I don't think I have ever been so disgusted in my life... The "Coon-Tail" now owns this lake/pond an no one else... Bryan and I could not believe our eyes, I actually cried... We counted 10 various trophy cats, a few blue gill, and a very large carp, all dead, floating on top of the "Coon-Tail", the stench was unbearable. Included in the dead was what was left of my big 6 footer friend after the buzzards had got to him. I don't know what to do about this, I am beside myself, and Bryan who is the biggest nature lover I have ever known would love to put his hands on someone to make them pay for this horrible loss.

I hope this answers the listing I included at the top of this email, I was able to take a few pictures of the dead fish, I have them on my blackberry. It was hard to get real good ones, but I was able to zoom in on the three that were close to the bank, I am including them in this email also.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and anything your organization can do to maybe save any fish left in this pond would be wonderful!!!!! I just hope there are some left, and I wish now I had listened to my gut, and reported this sooner.

Respectfully,
Karen & Bryan
